Known as the "King of the B Movies," the legendary filmmaker Roger Corman died on May 9 at the age of 98. Corman specialized in making low-budget genre movies with titles like "The Wasp Woman," "Attack of the Crab Monsters," and "Teenage Caveman." Corman hired these directors in the early stages of their careers to helm low-budget features that the filmmakers have acknowledged as learning experiences they applied in their later larger-scale productions. In fact, many of these directors hired Corman in small acting roles in movies like "The Godfather Part II," (Coppola), "The Silence of the Lambs" (Demme), and "Apollo 13" (Ron Howard). In the interview, Corman shares myriad lessons learned while working in the film industry for more than 60 years.

CNN —Hollywood actor Steve Buscemi has been treated for injuries after being punched in the face while walking in New York City. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) told CNN it is investigating the assault, which took place on Wednesday and is the latest in a string of random attacks in the city. Last month, CNN spoke to half a dozen women who said they were hit in the face out of nowhere while on the streets of New York City. “He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY,” the statement said. “Upon arrival, officers were informed a 66-year-old male was punched in the face by an unidentified individual,” the police statement said.

CNN —President Joe Biden is facing backlash from lawmakers in both parties over his ultimatum that a major Israeli offensive in the city of Rafah would result in a shut-off of some US weapons. “So if you’re worried about Palestinian casualties, the stated policy here actually doesn’t make a ton of sense,” Vance said. The president’s announcement amounted to a turning point in US-Israeli ties since the seven-month conflict between Israel and Hamas began in October. Still, the president’s aides said the message shouldn’t have been a surprise to their intended recipients in Israel given repeated warnings to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “I think President Biden has taken forceful action – so much so there’s been a lot of blowback for his recent public statement.”CNN’s Kit Maher, Aileen Graef, Kevin Liptak, Jennifer Hansler and Kylie Atwood contributed to this report.

Gen Z is getting hit hard by inflation

For Gen Z, it was the Covid-19 pandemic. Why are we seeing that Gen Z is tapping into their credit more than their Millennial counterparts 10 years ago? Most Gen Z consumers are not homeowners. And so I think that’s been a big cause of what’s been driving a lot of that financial strain that Gen Z consumers have seen. The key is to not use the personal loans to pay off credit card debt and then run your credit card bills right back up after you do that.

The Israeli Air Force achieved an unmatched air combat victory in the 1982 Lebanon War. The battle, known as Operation Mole Cricket 19, saw over 60 enemy aircraft eliminated without a single Israeli loss. The fourth-generation Israeli jets were also made much more lethal by the AIM-9L Sidewinder missile that could be fired from any angle. This allowed Israeli jets, with targeting assistance from UAVs, to destroy the SAMs using anti-radiation missiles. After all, we are so used to seeing older men playing action heroes with all the verve and pep of younger men. The original “Speed,” which was directed by Jan de Bont, came out in 1994 and grossed about $350 million worldwide. Let’s pretend “Speed 2: Cruise Control” (1997) never happened — the movie was a flop, and Reeves wasn’t even in it. Older female actors in action roles often feel disposable and replaceable. But there’s something satisfying about seeing familiar characters age in exciting ways — and about seeing an older woman kick ass.

The Nasdaq Composite added 1.14% while the S & P 500 advanced 1.85% in a relatively quiet week of economic updates. It also raises the stakes around major economic releases, such as next week's consumer inflation report. In the week ahead, earnings season continues — headlined by Walmart on Thursday — and inflation data will dominate the economic calendar.

But because she was a stunt double, galloping on horseback, crashing cars and kicking down doors for the stars of films and television shows, hers was not a household name. Jack Dorsey Explains Why He Left Bluesky

Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey helped found Bluesky as a Twitter alternative. But Dorsey says he left Bluesky because it was "literally repeating all the mistakes" Twitter made. AdvertisementWhy did Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey leave Bluesky, the Twitter alternative he helped create? Because — in Dorsey's telling, at least — Bluesky was "literally repeating all the mistakes [Twitter] made as a company." And later on, when Dorsey got frustrated while running the for-profit version of Twitter, he imagined that Twitter could help start an independent, open-source protocol version of itself — Bluesky.

CNN —A suspect has been indicted in relation to the deaths of two Australian brothers and an American, who died during a surfing trip in Mexico, according to Baja California’s Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was indicted on a charge of forced disappearance in the case involving the three tourists, whose bodies were found last week dumped in a 50-foot well with gunshot wounds to the head. While Baja California has been plagued by drug cartel violence in recent years, it rarely occurs in tourist areas like Ensenada. Dozens of people held a protest last week in Ensenada calling on authorities to do more to tackle violence facing tourists and locals alike. While parts of Mexico are established tourist destinations, violent crime including kidnapping and human trafficking plague parts of the country, particularly in border areas.

An oil pump jack at the New Harmony Oil Field in Grayville, Illinois, US, on Sunday, June 19, 2022. Oil prices rose in early trade on Thursday as shrinking U.S. crude inventories signaled tighter supply, and amid rising hopes that the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates by the end of the year. Crude inventories dropped last week by 1.4 million barrels to 459.5 million barrels, according to the Energy Information Administration, more than analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.1 million-barrel draw as refinery activity increased. Increasing expectations that the U.S. central bank will cut interest rates by year end after weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data also boosted oil prices. Lower interest rates can increase spending on crude oil.
